There is now a program called Mapsend Lite on Magellan's website that overcomes most of the compatibility issues we used to have between GPSr brands. #Accessing gps tracks on garmin 60csx softwareSoftware will be the same for any model you choose, so may as well not sweat that. Once you check prices, it might be easy to step up in a Magellan. I adventure the western US and Mexico, so I want a lot of memory and versatility. #Accessing gps tracks on garmin 60csx how toThe little 210 might be enough, especially if you just want to cover a relatively small area. Heres how to successfully transfer and view/follow GPX file format riding routes on pretty much any GPS device that supports them. It also uses AA batteries, unlike the 600 with its Li-Ions. You can do the same thing for a few dollars less with a 500, less the 3-axis and weatherstation. I like the 3-axis compass and weatherstation. I'm on my way back to Australia, and ordering one before heading out to the Outback. He had to have something that worked for his Garmin 396, and he adapted it for the 60CSX. If you love your GPS, for ten bucks, it sounds like a deal. Many waypionts linked together, taken very quickly. I received a letter from the creator of a 'Glare Wizard' that fits the 60CSX. It's speed of fix, drift, and scatter that make a hastily marked waypoint less accurate, and if you think about it, that's what a track is. I call that more accuracy, but as to final accuracy, they are pretty much equal. But it has been my experience that the Magellans exhibit less drift and scattering than the Garmins when I have been on the trail with friends. gpx files and create the tracks.įollow this linkto a site that tested the Magellans vs. I think the track data will fill the data card faster than you might expect.Įven having more than one data card won't give you GPS access to more tracks. There is a fair amount of overhead since these are basically XML files. You can open one with any text editor and see your data. gpx files are text files and as such are pretty big. I have no idea what happens if you ride around late at night and stay out past midnight. I assume it will keep creating these until if runs out of room. #Accessing gps tracks on garmin 60csx manualThere is no mention of any limit to the number of these files it can create in the manual or on the Garmin web that I can find. I went out this morning and turned on the GPS and it created a new gpx file called '20061204.gpx'. I turned off the GPS a couple of times during this ride and the track data was recorded in that one file. But before I realized that, I accidentally cleared the tracklog before I even save it to the internal memory. gpx files are named by date '20061118.gpx'. I've never notice this problem before with the Garmin 60 CSX, but 5 minutes ago, I realized that the tracklog the Garmin 60CSX was not being saved to the microSD card. You could also remove the data card and put it in a card reader attached to your PC. gpx files is to connect your 60Cx to your PC as a USB storage device and transfer the files. None of the track features such as track back will use any of these files on the data card. This is a universal format that can be read by MapSource and a number of other programs. ![]() The track information saved to the data card is in. When you enable saving tracks to the data card, you are essentially saving track data in two places at once the normal track memory in the GPS - AND - the data card. If you have a 2G card loaded with 1.2G of map data then I suppose you have about 800M of space for track data. (The 60Cx and 60CSx are the only Garmin's that do this that I know about.) The amount of track data you can save on the data card is limited by the available card memory. The other way is to enable saving tracks to the data card. This track memory is in the GPS, not the data card. You can save up to 20 tracks and when you do that, the GPS resizes them to 500 points max. One way is the 'normal' way using the 60Cx track memory. I've tried it both through their Webupdate application, and also through downloading the executable and running it directly on the desktop.Įach time the unit freezes, and it reports an error.Click to expand. You can save track data two ways. #Accessing gps tracks on garmin 60csx serialI've tried every combination of USB, with different cables and serial with a Keyspan adapter. #Accessing gps tracks on garmin 60csx updateI currently have 2.6, and I'm trying to update to 2.9. What hasn't worked is updating the firmware on the 60Csx. I've also uploaded tracks and waypoints to Mapsource, and to the third-party mapping product TrackLogs, which has (British) Ordnance Survey mapping capability. It took about 2.5 hours, but it worked absolutely fine, which I consider a massive achievement! I transfered over 950Mb of maps from Topo GB to a 1Gb card in the GPS unit. Uploading maps to the unit itself worked fine via USB. I've been impressed so far with Parallels, having bought it specifically so that I could send Garmin Mapsource maps to my 60Csx. ![]()
